Examples from The Sound of Music

The orignal aspect ratio (OAR) images on the left are from the DVD and accurately represent the visal portion of the frame. The black bands have been removed from the widescreen versions to let you more clearly see how much of the video image is lost in the pan-and-scan (Modified Aspect Ratio or MAR) version. The MAR version is approximated based on the expected point of action within the frame.

For best results, these examples should be viewed in a resolution no less than 1,024 pixels wide.
